Meet the Founder
Clayton J. Shuman, PhD, MSN, RN

Clayton is an innovator and researcher with expertise in substance use, maternal child health, and implementation science. He is passionate about addressing inequalities and inequities within communities and organizations. While working to address systemic and interpersonal biases and stigma towards birthing people and substance users, he developed the ArtSpective program in collaboration with the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Because the program helps people understand their implicit biases using innovative arts-based methods, he realized it could have a much broader societal impact and founded ArtSpective LLC. Dr. Shuman has tested the program among a variety of participant groups and topics. Along with the ArtSpective team, he is mission-driven and committed to providing effective, engaging, and novel implicit bias training and works closely with clients to ensure the program's effectiveness and to help clients achieve their goals.
